Identity Crisis-The Metal Artefact

09 Feb

Questions?

With the permission of The Chair

A metal artefact may be a piece of Trophy or a Cup. Some of these metal pieces are reserved in the BRCA office at IIT Delhi for being rewarded to the best hostels in respective Clubs of BRCA.

Dance and Dramatics Trophy

EDLC Trophy

Hindi Samiti Trophy

………… etc, etc.

For winning a trophy of such a kind, some hostels work day and night, sometimes 24 hours a day, sometimes throughout the month, and in some cases, the whole year. There are people who keep storing and updating their database consisting of stats concerning about respective points of their hostels compared to other hostels, sometimes, with some specific hostel, making algorithms regarding “how their points would alter” if they win second or third or in the most probable case, nothing.

Well, IIT Delhi has been engulfed in such sort of bullshit for the past few months.

IIT Delhi was meant to nurture allrounders out of the cream of the nation. To manifest the potential skills within the prodigious brains of India, Competitive clubs were set. Cultural activities were promoted, and soon IIT Delhi became a home ground for some natural and laborious students who later went to become professional actors, national debaters, sportspersons radiating ambient personalities and terrific, mind-wobbling dancers.

Today, what matters to “SOME” IITians is the ‘Prize Tag’. In the mad rush to win a metal trophy, they are ready to manipulate results, set the judges, modify rules in their favour, bring loads of freshers from their hostels to clap again and again for their hostels.

The deserving are often dejected. The undeserving rule the ‘Prize Tag’.

What Ara got in Group Dance is what Zanskar received in Stage Play.

The decision of one or two individuals (judges) decides the fate of a hostel and those who are in power. What determines the decision making mind state of a Judge will always remain a mystery.

Power is at stake.

Reputation is in danger.

Not to forget Political supports which decide the coming generation of Power.

IIT is in Hell.

An unhealthy atmosphere which runs on rubbish nonsense of 1st, 2nd and 3rd with wrong means not denied.

I don’t believe in throwing some individual’s reputation in my blogs or in public.

What I regret is that on 25th Feb, 2010, the Dance and Dramatics Club died in IIT Delhi.

I am proud to say that the whole team of 12 ‘responsible’ people (the reps and the secretary) were ‘responsible’ for this untimely demise.

I persist in a dilemma of calling myself a proud DnD Rep pf Aravali Hostel, who served the Institute DnD Club and his dying hostel (in cultural legacy) with all his might ……… or a dejected individual who couldn’t prevent the death of his Club, the success of which was his dream in a recent past time.

I don’t really care which hostel wins the trophy or which doesn’t. Being a rep, I myself don’t know the points tally at present. May be coz my own hostel didn’t win a single prize, but I cant forget the appreciations I got in all the events.

I realized that you feel satisfied than ever when you loose after giving your best. Winning perhaps increases the greed of a person. This may sound silly to a few, I don’t want any comments on this from some ‘analysts’ and ‘critics’.

Aravali showed its mettle in Dance, while Zanskar did the same in Dramatics.

The winner in these two cases is

The Talent – which was discovered.

The Effort – in mounting up the performance levels from zero to everest.

The Sentiments – which bonded these hostels together.

Some hostels won the ‘Prize’ due to some unknown (yet known) reasons. The word named ‘machana’ has become an anecdote.

Kumaon did everything (some EXTRA efforts) to win everywhere this time.

Fine, they win. Congrats !!!!!

May God rest their souls in peace.

But a request to the whole IIT –

“Let talent flourish, great personalities take birth and satisfied individuals continue the legacy of this Institute. Not that some natural talents who become chu**** in the rat race of getting recognition.”

You don’t get success when you run for it. Success itself comes touching your feet ……… if the feet are firm.

This is the Identity Crisis: The Metal Artefact

With this, I Rest my case ………….

The DnD Club wouldn’t die…It was never and would never be dependent on 1 person..
The passion of so many people doesn’t depend on the manipulation of 1 point and the delivery of a metal artefact..Its the passion to work for the culture …to keep the legacy going…
    I’ve alwz njoyd ur posts n performances…
But for the first time I am proud of your post…
    ..
…Zanskar proved what it had to.. a metal artefact can’t give the support …which v got by not getting it…
    Thanks Man…
    Keep it up..!!!

    Saurabh’s comment says it all……

I know nothing bout whatever happened in your college…..but all I can say is that I know you are a very passionate n talented person……born to rock.. of course a trophy is not required to prove this……

always be the same person with the same passion, determination, dedication n perfect attitude….. i know such phases are disappointing… but i also know that this happens… don let all this affect you..

your passion for whatever you do… be it street plays, stage plays, your blogs, your poems whatever… it would never die,,, i know that… so as long as the passion exists.. the DnD club wouldnt die… !

you are one of those few people who work hard for things that they enjoy n that they are passionate about… rather than those idiots who are crazy about a certi, or a trophy or a prize or whatever, you know those losers don exist compared to people like you…

n ya….. keep writing…. its a great way to express whatever you feel ……. don you ever leave that habit……

come what may… just don be disheartened… such phases come n go.. you know what your strength is.. you believe in yourself,,, this might seem to be a weird lecture….. but trust me, in the long run.. this is what matters!!

all the best buddy….. keep rocking!

    hmm…
Being a “”””CULTU”””” of (more importantly) “ARAVALI HOUSE”…
Its a pleasure to have a DnD rep who says ” Sir rhne dete hain, machaake kya faayada??, “Prize hi to aayega…” “”

sahi mein bhot lambe lambe comments likhne ki Kshamata rakhta hun is topic par to but abhi to itna hi kaafi hai k “Basoya Jindabad” 🙂
and aisi thinking waale log jab tak hain.. tab tak RCA trophy ya koi bhi trophy jeetkar kya karna??

Thank yOu basoya ji… bhot mazze le liye cultuship k humne… aap jaise reps kaaran hi poosible ho paaya

hope people will realize that its important to njoy these events and activities around and use the platforms and chances we get for smthing good for ourselves…
By above i never say that you should leave a fierce aggression to win..
but that should not be present at the cost of njoying the things…

abhi thoda confuse sa ho gya… Hope bhawanaayon ko samjh gye log…

    Congrats Basoya…
    mazze karo

    @ saurabh

i loved your performance, i almost cried in front of Kari after your slot …….

    @ sonia, alankar

thanks a lot yaar ………… hope people come up in changing the system. Raising voice against secy, etc wont work. The problem doesnt lie in an individual, it actually lies in the system itself ……. which compells people to take wrong ways under the influence of others.

    @ mohit cultu

bahot zyada ho gaya sirji !!!!!!!

but ara wouldnt have been here where it has reached in last one year if it werent for the cultu who said, “Take your freedom to spend, no compromise” ……….. because of which 12000 were spend on Group Dance this year in Aravali !!!!!

Thanks cultu bhaiya ……. for everything 🙂

    Regards
    Snehil

With the permission of the chair.. the topic in front of the house is that the rat race for the trophy has killed the club… yes i agree to the fact that there is an insane rat race going on in IIT D , but it is not always (for every one) to get the trophy , whenever it is, it is wrong. I know the trophy wont come to me this year.. and still i fight my heart out to give the best performance possible with the given resources , that is cause i do it for the love towards drams, towards the club. to me recognition is more satisfying than the trophy.. but sadly some ppl believe that ,” RECOGNITION DIES ,GLORY REMAINS” as saurabh said.. the club never dies because of one foul person or one foul part.. i wouls like to add that it will always be alive till one part or even one person has the true spirit alive. Yes , the club’s reputation suffered a major blow on 25th Feb. and sadly the secy himself was responsible for it.. but that means nothing.. we are not the representatives of institute or hostel.. we are representatives of the DND club the dance and dramatics unit of IIT D . And being one of the same myself, i am more happy than sad that the problem and its cause came out in the open so very clearly that they can now be uprooted from the club for its own good..
again the club is alive and it always will be till we have the spirit of a DND rep alive in ourselves..

ohhk….this is the first time i read ur blog……and this article came up first…..

ive seen all the comments n all as well….heres my perspective….

we are the ones who give importance to the metal artefacts kid…..and u writing this article and getting these comments is a testament to all that…..they say “any publicity is good publicity” …..thats what you are giving them…..bad publicity that is still good for them…them being the metal artefacts as u so quantly put it….. i went through the whole thing with you in dance and i have goin through this longer than you…… trust me kid the hullabaloo surrounding all this is created by the victims themselves…. in the end its the impact one leaves on others and not what impact others leave on us……

besides that…..poltu, machana is crap ……rise above it….yeh sab moh aya hai…..
dont get so affected and engulfed by it …..cheers

Just an appeal…………..””fellow IIT-ians…get a life, the onus of establishing a new pardigm of “credibility and trust” lies on our shoulders as one of the “so called” finest brains of the nation, but I feel some ppl amongst us have taken to abusing and exploiting this very privelege which we have been endowed with. This whole non-sensical and dirty game of “”max POR hadapna” and fraudelent basis pe recognition aur awards paana” doesnt help anybody in long run…rather its a curse on our IIT fraternity.””

lets weed out these irrelevant and pitiable tendencies for a better U, a better ME…and thus a better US…………………….

“Winning perhaps increases the greed of a person. “”……………………

dude I agree but this greed can be good if u are confident enuf of ur realistic capabilitiesnd dont feel insecure about anything……ppl who “fear” competition and dont have the guts to stand up and walk down to the opponent winning team to congratulate them on their deserving victory, but rather crib and start bickering are the ones whose greed lurks in the dirty waters…………..so be greedy but with the strength to play fair and a heart big enuf to recognize the greatness in others!!

    wat sayy basoya….???

btw “”hail basoya …the blogger……nd not the incessant jester(apni bhasha mein ace hagoda 😉 😛 )

keep writing ur heart out…as it gives some energyu to ours 🙂

    Aayush
